Custom switch commands

Wire any Smart Switch to a custom team-chat command so anyone on the team can flip it without opening the Rust+ menu.

Every Smart Switch you've paired with Rust+ can be given a custom team-chat command from dashboard Settings → Devices. The most common patterns:

  • !base — toggles your main base light strip.
  • !turrets — flips a switch wired into your turret bank.
  • !doors — opens / closes the main entrance.
  • !alarm — manually arms or tests a Smart Alarm.

How it works

Wire a Smart Switch in-game, pair it with Rust+, then on the dashboard:

  1. Open Devices.
  2. Click the switch.
  3. Set the command field (e.g. base) and optionally a trigger message (the line the bot replies with when the switch flips — "Base lights are now ON").
  4. Save.

Anyone in your team can now type !base in team chat to toggle it. The same command works from the overlay's Devices tab and the Discord bot.

A few things to know

  • Custom commands share the global prefix with built-ins. If you change the prefix to . in Settings, !base becomes .base.
  • Commands are case-insensitive.
  • Two switches can't share the same command name. The dashboard rejects duplicates.
  • Smart Alarms can also be given a custom command — useful for letting your team manually trigger a base-alert siren during a raid drill.

Limits

  • A free-tier Scout plan can wire commands on as many switches as Rust+ allows (Rust+ caps Smart Devices at 30 per server). Premium plans have no additional cap.
